Stimulating the Economy
How Thach Nguyen Is Stimulating The Seattle Economy
One Man Can Make A Difference
I want to inspire billions of people to reach for their dreams by sharing my life story and showing everyone that anything is possible. That’s a tall order with our sagging economy. But I’m sure I can make a difference.
With all the negative news surrounding us and by talking to many people, I realized many potential home buyers have become paralyzed by fear. Many are afraid of the falling prices and the thought that they may lose their jobs. But they shouldn’t be. Now is a great time to buy, especially if a buyer plans to be in their home for a long time. Interest rates are at historic lows!
I began thinking about how I could eliminate home buyers’ fears and help them into a new home. And then I began to think about how buying a home actually stimulates a number of other purchases and has a big impact on a very large number of other companies and hence the economy.
And I came up with an idea: Why not bring together companies willing to offer discounts on their products and services and offer them as incentives to first-time buyers, who typically make up 40 percent of any given real estate market? These incentives would help the companies and save the buyers money.
At the same time, I could offer a little inspiration, using my own successes as an example. A down market like the one we are currently experiencing allowed me to buy 18 houses from 1999 to 2003. These houses had a market value of about $3 million when I bought them, and now – despite Seattle’s falling prices – they are worth more than $5.5 million.
Why not share with buyers how I did it and how they too can follow in my path?
Here’s what I’m doing:
To help these buyers, I’ve created my first-ever home buying class every month at the Jefferson Community Center. I’ve teamed up with Bank of America and a half dozen other companies to not only educate those that attend but to give them service and product discounts totaling more than $1,500.
These companies are offering discounts on everything from appliances to heating oil to home inspections to moving expenses. In addition we will be giving away gift cards worth hundreds of dollars from other companies. At our first seminar in January, we gave away more than $350 in gift cards – including a $100 gift card to Lowe’s and $150 for dinner at the 4th Street Grill.
In addition, I’m working with award-winning interior designer Midori Yoshikawa, and in conjunction with several other companies, we plan to give a $3,000 Room Makeover to a lucky buyer. And once I finalize all the nitty gritty details, I would like to give away several more Room Makeovers.
Here’s how you can help:
1) If you know of anyone that is thinking about buying their first home, I’d like to invite you to have them call me or attend my First Time Home Buyer class. I would love to help them buy a home and save them money.
2) I’m also looking to increase the amount of discounts and great price savings I can offer to these buyers, so if you or your company would like to join our team, I would love to find a way to include you. I also need companies that would like to participate in or sponsor our Room Makeover giveaway.
As you know, every home purchase causes a ripple effect of other purchases of goods and services home owners need. By nudging them into the market we are doing our part in taking action and stimulating the economy. How cool is that?
